Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just half a year after starting disrespectful songs directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has signed a contract joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.
Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities in April. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull the team he loves out of the bottom places.
Past Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder
Both men had history prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
All appears has been put behind them with United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Playing Challenges
The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
