Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
